Whew! What an opening weekend! The 2021 NCAA Men’s tournament has certainly lived up to its “madness” moniker. We saw upset after upset, a number 1 seed falling, and the PAC-12 going undefeated. Who knew???? Certainly not us. Now, our brackets are a mess, our relationships are hanging by a thread, and our waistlines are ever expanding, but this has been one hell of a fun ride. What’s that? There are two more weekends??? God help us all… – West Coast Ace
The standings after the first weekend are below, followed by our “experts” reactions to the current status of their respective brackets.

The OGinut: Well, yeah. So I ignored my algos who had Gonzaga winning it easily and went with my second highest #1, Illinois. Worked out well. What I knew, but ignored, was that Illinois had the toughest second round match-up with Loyola Chi according to my algos. I also ignored my algos that had Michigan going to the Sweet 16 ( I overrode it and had them losing to LSU due to loss of Livers). And Villanova as well, who I wrote off due to injuries. That worked out well too didn’t it? I also ignored the trend that has the Pac 12 Tournament winner (Oregon State) going to the Sweet 16. Overall I had 9 of the Sweet 16 correct. Pretty poor showing. Though I did get Syracuse right. For my larger pool entries, I ride with Houston, who barely beat Rutgers. For this pool, I’ll get a bit of redemption if Oregon beats Gonzaga, but I’m not holding my breath. Were lessons learned? Sure. Will I listen or remember for next year? Probably not. Enjoy the games!
Charlie Bad Bets: In order to live up to my moniker I chose my bracket in the best way possible, with only 5 minutes of research and some help from my friends on the world wide web of sports (that’s what it’s called now right?). In good form I am still in the running to not come in last and have about 0.0001% chance of being in the top two. My absolute best sabotage was not on my bracket though….when my better half asked me about Oral…why didn’t I just say yes?? Instead, I let her know that Oral Roberts may be a great pick on name alone but there was no way they would win…..plus maybe mentioning there were some people thinking that Ohio ST may be pretty good this year….thus turning her bracket down the path of no return and cementing my Charlie Bad Bets persona for at least another few weeks (years, forever? who knows!).
JJ Golf Pro: Well according to JJ, he’s not taking questions right now due to SBD – Severe Bracket Depression. We told him to call the Corona Hot Line and get back to us after the Elite 16 😀
West Coast Ace: What the hell is an Elite 16??? Man, our “experts” are really cracking under the pressure! Although I am currently sitting in 4th place, my bracket has the most possible points left (West Coast Ace’s better half has the second most possible points, YES WE CAN!) Therefore, by my precise calculations, as long as Gonzaga continues to roll, my victory is a forgone conclusion. Bahaha, take that losers! How’s my bracket actually looking though??? It doesn’t matter! This is a zero-sum game baby! Will my shit talking and gloating come back to bite me? Will the Zags lose, AND will Michigan (my better half’s champion) roll on to a title??? The answer is YES, YUP, and DUH, dummy! It may just be a race to the bottom this year, stay tuned!
