The MoMo is Real

This is a special announcement for this week. Ladies and gentlemen, the momo is real. A month ago the Yankees were dead inn the water and the Baahstan RedSux had a 10 game need over them in the AL East. Today: It’s a whole new ballgame as the Yankees have won 9 straight. Not even playing Stanton in RF or throwing Britton into games has slowed them down. The Andrew Velazquez story has been something special. It’s magical right now. Enjoy it. In another borough, we have the opposite story. A month ago, the Mets were sitting comfortably in 1st place. Now after another dismal week, they sit 2 games under .500 and 7 games out of the Wildcard. What the heck happened? Sure, all true Mets fans were waiting for the inevitable collapse. But wow. This was severe. And all but certainly tied to deGrom’s injury.  Even though he only started every 5 days or so, his absence from the mound deflated the whole squad. They aren’t dead yet, but the news on deGrom hasn’t been good. It’s gonna take another Miracle Mets turnaround here.

A very special thank you and best wishes goes out to Henrik Lundqvist, who announced his retirement this week from the NHL. The Don Mattingly of NY hockey, King Hank leaves us with 15 seasons, five All-Star game appearances, one Vezina Trophy as the league’s top goalie in 2011-12, but sadly no Stanley Cups. He probably would have had at least one on jut about any other team than the Rangers, but he never complained. Stanley Cup or no, the guy was a freaking hero.

Lastly, I switch over to fantasy football. Some quick background: I’ve been playing fantasy football for about 23 years not and guess what, I still kinda stink at it. I had a stretch where I was decent, but whatever that secret formula was, it’s long gone. I’m going to write a separate article on fantasy football next week, but this note goes out an extremely excellent analyst and human being, Mike Tagliere over at Fantasy Pros. Mike is currently battling COVID in the ICU and on a respirator. We wish him a speedy recovery and my hearty goes out to his family.
