Rebuild v.21.0: The new New York Knicks Season Preview

Even before last night’s crazy 2OT with against the Celtics, I was feeling cautiously optimistic about this NY Knicks team. And why not? Last year the Knicks made it to the playoffs as the 4 seed and by all offseason accounts, they seemed to have improved from last season. Sure, Miami, Chicago, and the Wizards all seemed to have gotten better as well, and the Bucks and Nets are the class of the Eastern Division, BUT, I just have a funny feeling in my gut… The Knicks could end up finishing 2nd in the Atlantic thread of Philly and be the 4th seed again this year. AND, just maybe, just maybe… win a play-off series. I know I shouldn’t get ahead of myself, but I’ve been following this team for 50 years. And the pieces are in place here. Not all of them to be a title contender mind you, but enough pieces to make some noise. Last night’s game both showed the strengths and weaknesses of this team. The collapse and choke at the end of regulation did nothing to spur optimism. But you know what? Previous recent Knick teams would have absolutely collapsed in OT and lost by 8-12 points. This team, however, pulled it together and got the dub. I was extremely impressed. Last year’s team won 41 games in a 72 game season. I’m looking for 47 wins this season. In addition to last season’s squad, Fournier, Kemba, a stronger Obi and a healthy rebound monster in Robinson, can all make it happen. It’s the franchise’s 75th Anniversary. It feels like there have been maybe 20 of those years that have been actually really enjoyable. Let’s make this the 21st!
