J-E-T-S First Round Recap

Joe Douglas got his man in BYU’s Zach Wilson (no surprise there) at number two, and he is making sure he is going to be protected. Dealin’ JDoug gave up a lot (two third rounders, gulp!) to move up to fourteen to grab the best interior lineman in the draft in USC’s Alijah Vera-Tucker (Tucker can also play tackle, which just increases his value, great pick IMO). Much has been made about Zach Wilson’s slight frame, and grabbing a linemen here was extremely prudent. No price is too high to keep the future face of the franchise off his back. However, there are question marks abound for The Mormon Messiah. Can he handle the pressure of the big city? Will his body hold up to the rigors of a seventeen game schedule? One thing is for sure…. Zach’s mom is ready for prime time!

Yowzer! Ok, back to business. What will the Jets do moving forward? I have to think there will be several plans of attack for the day two. Before yesterdays trade, The Jets owned three day two picks, but now are down to just one with the thirty fourth overall. I said in my draft preview that The Jets would spend most of the latter day (no pun intended towards Mr. Wilson!) picks on defense. However, I can see Dealin’ JDoug trading out of thirty four to recoup some of the losses from yesterday. I believe, either way, if Joe stands pat or trades back, The Jets will probably target best available talent. Enjoy day two Jets fans, and remember, even if The Jets muck up the rest of the draft, we will always have the green room… Keep it clean out there!
