Ginuts Bytes Week in Review: 06/29/2021

Hello everybody. I’m moving the family down to Florida this week, so everything is a little crazy. I’ll be away for a bit as I have to get the family down to FLA, fly back to CT, finish packing up the house, deal with the movers, the house closing, and then drive my ass back down to Florida, deal with the house closing down there, get the stuff ,moved in and unpack. I won’t even have access to my trusty iMac for a few weeks, so who the hell knows when you’ll hear from me again. In the meantime, this will have to be short and not so sweet. I’m stressed, sweaty, and am generally more pissed off than usual. So here it goes.

NY Yankees: The most frustrating thing with this team is that they have games like last night’s 11-5 thrashing of the Angels and last Wednesday’s exciting walk-off victory agains the Royals (I got to go to the game as a farewell to the Bronx and wasn’t disappointed). However, between these magical times, is a whole host of mediocracy and straight up dumpster fire poop. Barring some kinda late season heroics (and we’ve seen it before from this team), expect some pretty big changes across the board this offseason.

NY Mets: Ok, so deGrom has definitively proven that that he is 1) not from this world, and 2) also human, all in one week. I’m talking about him starting after seemingly being injured and pitching great in five scoreless innings against Atlanta and then following it up with a human-like performance (gasp, he gave up two whole runs in 6 innings against Philly Saturday). This performance brought his season ERA all the way up to 0.69. And he is still batting over .400. Overall, i’m still going with the not-from-this-world theory. The Mets remain in 1st place in the NL East with a 3 game lead over the Nats.

NY Islanders: Well, that was exciting wasn’t it? Rebounding from an 8-0 drubbing by the Lighting to win Game 6 3-2 and force a Game 7 was miraculous. However, the dream fell short in Game 7 as Vasilevskiy and the TB defense stifled the Isles and won 1-0 off of a short-handed goal by Yanni “Thanksgiving” Gourde. Overall though, the Isle fans have to be pleased with the effort this season. Isle fans also got to say goodbye to the Nassau Coliseum after Game 6 in true NY fashion; by throwing beer cans onto the ice. A wonderful, albeit unknown at the time, send-off.

NY Rangers: Adam Fox. Adam Fox. Adam Fox. The week belongs to you sir. Adam won the Norris Trophy for best defenseman and became only the second player to do so before starting his 3rd year in the league. The other player; Bobby Orr. That’s pretty good company wouldn’t you say?

Brooklyn Nets: Durant vs Pippen. Pippen vs Durant. No this isn’t a on-on-one on the court challenge. This is where most battles are fought nowadays; Twitter. Scottie said Durant is not a team player despite Durant’s heroic Game 7 effort. This in-turn launched a Twitter storm from KD who called Pippen’s leadership traits into question. Ouch. Meanwhile, Harden had to withdraw from Team USA, Tokyo Olympics edition, due to his lingering hammy injury.

NY Knicks: The hunt for a point guard continues. Will they trade for Lillard? And who/what would they have to give up to get him? A lot most likely. But, if he could come here and attract other stars, then whatever be the haul, it is probably worth it. Will they try to draft West Virginia point guard Miles McBride? Or has his stock risen too much? Will they trade up to get him? Will they trade out of the draft completely for a player? Many questions. But, one need. A damn point guard.

NY Giants: Guess who’s back, back again? Eli’s back, back again. Well, at least in a business operations and fan engagement role. Whatever that is. But welcome back Eli.

NY Jets: Other than the obvious ongoing questions around Zach Wilson and his new HC, the main question these days seems to be whether to not the Jets will sign a veteran CB to help with the youngsters. In this NFL< they had better.
