Ginuts Bytes Week in Review: 06/06/2021

Yeah. I missed another week. I was traveling with the family down in Florida scoping out a place to live. Yep, I’m joining the masses who are heading to Florida in droves. My journey is mostly work related. But the family and I are excited about the next chapter. What this means though is that things are crazy and will be getting even crazier until we get settled down there next month. I’m going to miss some weeks. Can’t be helped right now. So apologies to my at least 2 readers.

NY Knicks: So, not the ending we all wanted and the Garden is once again an empty lonely place. But, look at it this way, the Knicks are relevant enough again to have a new villain! I’m talking of course about 90lb, trash talking Trae Young, who singlehandedly drove the Knicks nuts and destroyed their playoff dreams. Trae has crazy skills, but man, he needs to watch the antics because if the NBA ever gets its balls back, Trae may find himself in the 3rd row of seats after a particularly tough foul. Wouldn’t take much. So, here we are, in the offseason, once again hoping for a superstar to join the team to get them to the next level. Did they do enough this season to actually entice a star to come to MSG? I want to say yes. I really do. They have roughly $60M to spend for next season. And the Knicks have supposedly already reached out to Portland to inquire about a Lillard trade. We shall see. We’ve been jilted so many times, it’s tough to get the hopes up. But after this season, there is a glimmer of hope! Something that has been missing for way too long.

Brooklyn Nets: The current kings of New York continue to roll. Last night it was a 115-107 Game 1 win over the Bucks featuring huge efforts from Durant and Irving after Harden exited in the 1st minute of the game with a bad hammy. Griffin added 18 points along with 14 rebounds. And Joe Harris went 5-9 from 3-pt land on his way to scoring 19. Not surprisingly, Giannis was the high scorer on the court, scoring 34 in the losing effort. As of now, there is still no update on Harden. Oh boy. But this team is good enough and has proven they can win without him.

NY Yankees: Yuck! Just Yuck! This team has more streaks than Woodstock. Right now they are back to unwatchable mode. Hitting is just horrendous. Where they actually do get on base, the base running looks like pre-little league. And the bullpen blows. And yet, somehow they are at -145 for tonight’s game. Huh? Is this a sucker’s bet? Do the Yankees have a change tonight? Will they score more than 3 runs? Watch out!

NY Mets: The 1st place Mets however, are enjoying life having gone 7-3 in the last 10 games. After losing 2 in a row to the Pads, deGrom stepped up to the mound and told them to shut up and sit down. He fanned 11 over 7 scoreless, 3 hit innings. He did however go 0-3 at the plate and dropped his season average to .391. Guy can’t even hit .400. Sad. But seriously, his 0.62 ERA and .391 battling average put him somewhere in the Babe Ruth conversation. It’s ridiculous what he is doing so far this season. It’s deGromity!

NY lslanders: The Isles got past the Pens and now find themselves notched 2-2 against the Bruins. Last night featured one of the worst open net shots anyone has seen in a while. With Varlamov seemingly heading to the stands for some popcorn, Bruin winger Pastrnak found himself completely alone about 7 feet from the wide-open net. Rather than taking the pass and literally pushing the puck with his nose across the line, he tried a one timer blast and hit the far post. Crazy. Bruins had a change to put the series away, but instead the Isles are still alive after the 4-1 win!

NY Rangers: Unlike last years lottery night miracle that saw the Rangers jump up to the #1 overall pick, the hockey gods looked for revenge and sent the Rangers the #15 pick in this year’s draft. In other news, 20 year old Swedish defenseman, and former 28th pick in 2018, Nils Lundkvist, got signed to an entry-level contract. The Blue Shirts continue to look for a new coach.

NY Giants: OTAs started this week and we got to see Kenny Golladay in a Giant’s jersey on Friday. The main talk of the week was the Giant’s o-line who were also at OTAs. Can LT Andrew Thomas, LG Shane Lemieux, C Nick Gates, RG Will Hernandez and RT Matt Peart get it done? Our own resident JJ Golf Pro says yes! The rest of the world says no.

NJ Jets: Zach Willson, RB Michael Carter and WR Elijah Moore all made some plays at OTAs. This trio is the future of the Jets offense. Other news concerns the contract negotiations for WR Jamison Crowder. Not surprisingly, Jamison was not at OTAs. As was recent acquisition WR Corey Davis, who is taking care of his shoulder.
