NY Yankees: What a friggin week for the Yankees eh? A no-no by back-from-the-dead Kluber. A triple play! Walk-off clutch hits. And holy crap, the pitching has been excellent! Dang near history setting actually as the they had four starts of seven shutout innings in a row for the first time since May 1932. The Yanks have won five straight, but still trial the Sux by a game heading into tonight. Judge has been on fire and Torres is waking up strong. Even Odor and Ford got hits today. Crazy!
NY Mets: A pretty decent week for the Mets. The highlight was the exciting 12 inning 6-5 thrilla in South Beach Friday night. It was a game that saw Lindor get two hits! But the night belonged to rookie Khalil Lee who picked a most opportune time to get his first hit, a RBI double in the 12th that put the Mets up by one. This was preceded by eight straight record tying strike outs by the rookie, so I am sure he was extra relieved to get er done. And thanks to a Philly snide, the Mets hold 2.5 game lead in the East heading into Saturday night.
NY Knicks: The Knicks got themselves a 4-seed spot for the playoffs and a home court advantage for their round against the Hawks. Crazy to believe! A bit of trash talking ensured this week as Hawks interim HC Nate McMillan started laying the groundworks for the Knicks getting every call from the refs since the NBA wants the Knicks in the playoffs. This of course is just plain stupid and it did cost McMillan $25k. If the NBA wanted the Knicks in the playoffs, then they sure have been doing a real crappy job of it in the last 20 years. He later retracted, but the damage is done. Let’s see how the Knicks respond tomorrow night. A lot of experts have the Knicks winning this series (mainly based on their regular season dominance over the Hawks. But anytime I see the “experts” all throwing down shine on my team, I get nervous.
Brooklyn Nets: The #2 seed in the East starts their series against the Larry Bird-less Celtics tonight. Nobody gives the Celtics much of a shot in this series. Again, worry. Though Jaylen Brown being out definitely helps the Nets. Thus, it’s Jayson Tatum vs the All-Star Nets. But can the Nets stay healthy? If they do, it will be for the first time this season pretty much.
NY lslanders: Well, I said last week that I believed the pundits that said the Islanders were the mostly likely 4-seed to go far in the Playoffs, and so far they are 2-2 with the Pens and playing tough. Today’s impressive 4-1 effort followed two one goal heartbreaking losses to the Pens earlier in the week. The Isles went back to Sorokin in net today and he came through big time. I see a pattern here with the Isles goalies… hmmm. The Isles return to Pitt Monday night for the pivotal game 5! As an aside, we do miss John Tavares a speedy recovery from that vicious knee-to-head collision.
NY Rangers: As the Ranger players hit the links, the curling rinks, and watch their NHL colleagues play in meaningful games, the hunt for the next HC continues. Interviews with Gerard Gallant and Rick Tocchet occurred this week. John Davidson went back to Columbus. The Rangers also replaced Hockey Operations Adviser Leetch with former Drury teammate Mike Grier. I like the posting because Mike can help bring the toughness mindset to the franchise. Next year’s goals should be 1: Make the Playoffs; and 1A: Beat the ever-living crap out of the Capitals. And to be honest, I’d be perfectly okay of only 1A was obtained. And while I’m on the subject of the Captials, I need to give a very specials and gigantic soiled FU to the aforementioned Crapitals and especially Tom Wilson for making me have to root for the Bruins. It makes me sick to do it, but I have no other choice.
NY Giants: The Giants keep adding RBs. I think they have 37 now. Corey Clement and Ryquell Armstead were the latest two additions. I guess they are going to keep adding new ones until they find one or two that can run behind a bad o-line. I am interested in the signing of 30 year old, 6’5″, 245lb TE, Kelvin Benjamin. He had a fantastic rookie season for Gentleman back in 2014 as a WR, then the injury bug hit and never really relented. Can he revive his career as a TE in a crowded TE field with the Giants? I hope so. Can you imagine him and Kyle Rudolph on the field near the goal-line? Talk about TD targets!
NJ Jets: Other than Dan Feeney’s fantastic mullet and beer chugging skills at the Isles game, what happened with the Jets this week? Actually, I really don’t know. And who cares. No one can compete with Feeney’s story right now anyway.
