Do we have another Davey Day-trader to reckon with? Seems like all of a sudden, Mr. Gettleman can’t make a pick without moving up or down in the draft. And you know what? For the most part, I like it! Especially the move in the second round. Here the Gmen moved back 8 spots from #42 to #50, picked up another draft pick for next year’s loaded class (Miami’s 3rd rd pick) and still got much coveted GA Edge, Azeez Ojulari. If not for a reported spot of arthritis in Ojulari’s knee, he easily would have went in the 1st round. Many projections still had him in going in the 1st. I am giddy with this pick. This is what I’m talking about Mr. Gettleman! Well done sir. Well done. Though I can’t ignore the fact that Gmen were reportedly hoping for a suitable O-limeman to fall to them at 50, it is a great sign that they went with extreme value with Ojulari, instead of forcing the issue.
The 3rd round move was a bit more puzzling, however. Here the Giants moved up 5 spots from 76 to 71 (Broncos) and traded away their recently acquired 2021 5th rd pick acquired from the Bears the night before. With the pick they added UCF nickleback Aaron Robinson. Robinson gets added to a fairly crowded secondary, including last year’s 4th rd pick, nickleback, Darnay Holmes. Look, I’m not going to get too worked up over this. You can never have enough talented CBs in the modern NFL, but hello? Offensive-line anyone? However, considering that the next o-lineman didn’t get drafted until pick 86 (OSU’s OG Wyatt Davis), neither the Giants nor a bunch of other teams didn’t see any value at the position after BYU OT Brady Christensen went at #70.
For today, it has to be at least one or two o-linemen. Has to be! Let’s see if Cincy OT James Hudson or Tenn OG Trey Smith are still there at pick 116. Or will Davey Day-trader 2.0 strike again?
