NY Giants Outlook After Week 1: How We Doin?

After barely seeing the starters in the pre-season, we got to see what the 2021 version of the NY Giants will look like. Prognosis: Same as last year. Except! Except, we saw Barkley on the field. Sure he didn’t do much behind one of the league’s worst o-lines, but at least he was out there. He took some hits. Got into the feel. Golladay had a real nice grab, Slayton had a long play, Shep got past the century mark in receiving yards, and Azeez recorded his first of many NFL sacks. But dang, the GMEN mostly got trounced on both sides of the line. Gordon’s 70 yard run did not help. At least the GMEN registered two sacks. But mostly they made Bridgewater look good and he seemed to have plenty of time back there to find an open receiver. As for Danny and the Giants offense overall; other than the garbage time drive, they did not do much. And Danny did have his obligatory fumble. If searching for good news, they only gave top 2 sacks and those were the only QB hits allowed as well. So maybe there is hope? Hope as in a chance to win a few games that is.

After watching this game, I can see the Giants winning maybe 5 to 7 games this season. These would be victories over the Falcons, possibly the Panthers and Raiders at home, the Dolphins, maybe the Bears, and one or two division wins (one over Washington for sure and one from either Dallas or Philly). So basically we may be in for a repeat of last season. If any good comes from all this, it would be the removal of Gettleman. And hopefully a new franchise QB in next year’s draft. Jones isn’t the answer and Gettleman has been a colossal failure. I said it then, I said it when Danny looked good, and I’ll say it now: Daniel Jones as the 6th overall pick was one of the worst draft day mistakes I have ever seen by any GM. And for a guy who prides himself on specializing on the offensive and defensive lines, the Giants have neither. After these years with multiple chances to get it right. Bleh.
