2021 NCAA Men’s Championship Game Preview

We made it! What an incredible tournament thus far, but you already knew that. The story lines have been endless, and the basketball has truly lived up to the “madness” moniker. We finally saw this year’s Cinderella be put to bed by one of the most iconic buzzer beaters in March Madness history. The Suggs shot, ultimately, will be played and compared to Laetner’s miracle for the rest of time. I had Gonzaga rolling in the semi-final and, boy, was I wrong (usually am). UCLA deserves all the credit in the world. Speaking of being wrong, I had Houston giving Baylor all they got… instead Baylor laid an epic smack down of the completely overmatched Cougars. All and all, it’s been a fun ride; I’ve put on some pizza weight, gained zero perspective, and possibly made a college hoops fan out of the significant other (all wins!), but now, it all comes down to this…

Game time is for Pacific Standard Time

#1 Gonzaga Vs #1 Baylor (6:20 pm CBS) – What happens when you have an irresisitable force meet an immovable object??? Hyping up championship games is a time honored tradition, but this game just FEELS different. These two squads have been circling each other for the past two seasons, and like a highly anticipated prize fight, we finally get to see, without a doubt, the two best teams in the sport go right at each other. All the clichés will, inevitably, be thrown around. Hell, I think I’ve already used three in this paragraph alone! Gonzaga is chasing history, an unprecedented, in this age, undefeated season, that we just don’t see in the Men’s game (shout out to the UConn women’s teams of past). Gonzaga has been the best team all year, but the national semi-final proved there are cracks in the armor. Can the Zags ride Timme to one more Victory? Or has the magic of the Suggs shot worn off? Baylor has the size and athleticism to match up with the Zags, but will it be enough to shut down an elite Gonzaga starting five? I say no. I predicted this match up pre-tournament, and I predicted a Gonzaga victory. No time to second guess myself now. This will be one of the great championship games of all-time (hyperbole alert!) and make no mistake, Baylor will leave their imprint on it as well. The Bears are a fantastic team, from coach to the last man on the bench, and they will not roll over easily. BUT, Gonaga is going to pull off what no Men’s hoops team has done in 45 years. History WILL be made tonight, and the Zags will cap off, arguably, the greatest season in NCAA Men’s College Basketball history. So, grab a beverage of choice, order a pie, and try to stave off divorce for one more night because we are in for one hell of a final act…
